* NEWSFLASH *

Pitlochry Town Hall Group Has Achieved Charity Status!

text, letter

Susan Campbell, Chair of the Pitlochry Town Hall Group said: “This is a significant milestone for the town and the whole community. Should a Community Asset Transfer prove to be viable, the new charity would own the Town Hall on behalf of the community, protecting the future of the hall for generations to come. The news that we are now a recognised charity with the regulator is a big step on that journey and exciting news.”

The Pitlochry Town Hall Group has been supported by Pitlochry Community Action Trust (PCAT), which secured £30,000 from the UK Government through the United Kingdom Shared Prosperity Fund for the project.

Charlie McCarthy, Chair of PCAT congratulated the team on its new charity status, commenting: “Pitlochry Town Hall becoming a charity is a huge step forward, a significant endorsement of the project team and recognition of the importance of securing this historic building for the community.

We are pleased PCAT have been able to provide the project with support to date and look forward to continuing to collaborate with the team to deliver this exciting project.”

The team progressing the project is continuing to work on a feasibility study, business plan and raising grant funding to ensure that the project builds from a strong base.

As with all projects of this nature, more volunteers and Trustees for the new charity are always welcome.

If you have appropriate skills to support the project and would like to become involved in a great community project, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing: pitlochrytownhallgroup@gmail.com

The team at Pitlochry Town Hall is delighted to announce that the new organisation set up to progress a Community Asset Transfer of the Town Hall from Perth and Kinross Council to the community has achieved charity status with OSCR, the Scottish Charity Regulator.

This is a major milestone for the project and will support the process of taking over control of the Town Hall.

PROJECT INFORMATION

Pitlochry Town Hall is currently owned by Perth & Kinross Council and managed by Live Active Leisure, a leisure provider for the Council.

The Town Hall is subject to the Council's recent Asset Review, along with the other public buildings in Pitlochry, including the Leisure Centre and Library.

Community Asset Transfer Process:

Pitlochry Town Hall Group (PTHG) are looking at taking on the building as a Community Asset Transfer from PKC for the benefit of the local community.

The future of Pitlochry Town Hall has been called into question following the Asset Review that PKC have recently undertaken in our local area. Current service level agreements are only in place for the current financial year. After this time, PKC are unable to pledge the allocated funding required to keep this venue open. Pitlochry Town Hall provides a wide range of service user groups with suitable indoor space and is a key venue for community events.

The Pitlochry Town Hall Group (PTHG) has formed to support the future of this iconic community venue. They have hosted several community engagement events to gauge commitment and gather ideas for future use of the building.

Although the Town Hall provides a vital indoor space for community use, the current facilities are under-utilised and would benefit from redevelopment, improved disabled access, renovation of the rear end of the building and improved kitchen facilities.

Should the PTHG be successful in securing a Community Asset Transfer of the Town Hall, they would seek additional funds to improve the infrastructure and future proof building design and layout.
